You might read the headline and ask WTF does perspicacious mean?
Perspicacious is defined as the ability to be perceptive; paying attention, noticing and understanding things quicker than others.
Now let me tell you how it ties into businesses.
MONEY LENS
One of the questions I get most from people is, how do I find a starving market?
When I think about it I realise that it’s not a process, but it is developing a habit of what I like to call a Money Lens.
As an example, we’ll take a coffee shop because it’s easy to make people understand.
99.9% of people who go into a cafe, buy a coffee sit down finish their drink and go about their day.
Instead, I want you to try the approach I take.
When I go to a coffee shop, I buy my coffee, sit down and think if I had to run this business would I make money?
Is there a way I could run this business and make more money?
How much is the rent in this establishment? How much are these coffees? How busy is this place? Do they sell cakes and sandwiches to make extra revenue?
Who are the main customers? Well, it’s probably mainly businessmen. There must be a business district across the road.
Why are the people who work here not hot young girls to attract more men to come in if they’re the main customers?
You can start to see how it goes into dissecting a particular business.
EVERY SINGLE ONE
Any business you interact with, just start training your mind to view their business, and how you believe it works.
Everything from rent, overheads, the product, the profit margin, whether you could sell more…….
Obviously, there’s some information you don’t know. You don’t know exactly what the rent is but you can estimate it. You don’t have to be correct 100%, a rough estimation will do just fine.
You’ll be surprised how much you learn about business self-taught.
The next time you buy something online, try to see if you can identify a problem with the website, emails, whether you’re unhappy with a particular aspect of customer support, the packaging……. whatever.
You'll find that there are a lot of people making mistakes and you might look at them and think I can do better, you might even be able to beat them.
What’s going to happen is that on a long enough time frame there will be some mistakes you’ve identified in these businesses which you’re gonna remember so you avoid making it in your own business.
This is something you need to train yourself to do permanently as a matter of habit.
