How to Dramatically Improve Your Marketing by Understanding These Key Elements.

Updated: Jul 7, 2024

Let's be real, most marketing out there starts from a completely wrong approach. Many marketers focus on surface-level tactics such as catchy slogans, flashy advertisements, and large budgets, thinking these alone will capture the audience's attention and drive sales.

However, these strategies often lack substance and fail to create a lasting impact. This results in wasted resources and missed opportunities to build genuine relationships with potential customers.

In today's market, where consumers are more informed and discerning, marketing can quickly be seen through and dismissed, leading to diminishing returns on investment.

Without a deep understanding of the key elements, such efforts can come across as insincere or irrelevant.

In my experience, marketing unlike boxing is not that hard of a skill to master. You’re not getting punched in the face, your body or risking your life while fighting.

If you think about it, it’s quite easy to master if you follow certain rules or valid concepts.

THREE ELEMENTS

The basics of marketing come down to these 3 elements:

  1. What are we saying?

  2. Who are we saying it to?

  3. How are you reaching these people?

Let’s break it down one by one.

WHAT ARE WE SAYING?

Consider this element as your messaging. If you’re still using price to compete you need to stop.

Due to modern inventions marketing has become easier and difficult at the same time. Consumers are more informed, our marketing can quickly be seen through and dismissed.

Due to that, we as marketers have to improve messaging to be seen. It needs to be clear, powerful, persuasive, compelling, intriguing, and even fascinating for the viewers.

We cannot be boring, you can’t be saying the same stuff everyone says.

No, before you ask your message cannot come across as “WE’RE CHEAP”, “LOWEST PRICE”, “WE’RE REALLY GOOD”

That doesn’t gain anybody’s attention.

You are competing against people’s attention spans. The more accessible the internet has become the more harder it gets. Because the internet is becoming more and more accessible, more marketing is put out there.

The increase in the amount of marketing puts more pressure on you to cut through the clutter and get the attention of the viewers.

This leads us perfectly to our next point.

WHO ARE WE SAYING IT TO?

Not just any viewers, your target audience. You need to know who your message is for.

It is impossible to come up with a message that speaks to everyone and also gets the attention of everyone.

The message needs to be geared towards a group so you can disregard others.

For Example:

If you sell blowtorches, you’re mostly selling to a male audience. So the marketing should be geared towards guys.

If a woman wants to buy a blowtorch, that’s great. If someone wants to buy it, we’ll sell it. That’s no problem.

But the marketing needs to be geared towards the people that have the highest chance of converting to our offer.

There’s a reason why there is a saying, “Get woke, Go broke.”

It’s not so much because of the wokeness.

It’s because these companies, a lot of the time focus all their effort and all of their budget, messaging towards a group of people that couldn’t care less about them.

(If you have the budget to play around and don’t care about the results, sure, do your thing, but I'm not speaking to you.)

This is not about politics. That's not what we’re doing here. We’re here to sell shit.

And if you want to sell shit, it makes sense to tailor your message towards the group of people that is most likely going to buy your stuff.

Again, you don’t have to know this exactly from the outset. You can test multiple different audiences to find who your audience is but once you do.

Pick your target, and go for it.

Every business, every service, and every product has a target audience with an

above-average chance of converting. You need to target them.

And avoid going broke.

Extremely important to think about this.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO REACH THESE PEOPLE?

Onto our last element.

We need to figure out how are we going to get our messaging to our audience.

How do we reach these people?

This used to be extremely hard, but social media has made it easier than ever.

For now, just know there’s usually a way to reach your audience, but you have to know who

your audience is before you can reach them.

If you do the first 2 steps social media just makes it easier.

Because, back in the day you had to get a list of addresses, and do a direct mail campaign. It was way harder to measure the numbers.

These days it's much easier. Used to be extremely hard, and costly.

For some businesses, it still is. That’s up to you to think about creative ways of doing it.
